DR RICHARD ALPHONSO HUDLIN SR

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to Dr Richard Alphonso Hudlin Sr of St Louis Missouri , a deeply cherished soul who departed this world at the age of 90 .

Richard passed away peacefully at home on Friday May 24 2024 , leaving behind a symphony of memories that will resonate in the hearts of all who knew and loved him .

Born to Edward Warrington and Myrtle Hudlin , Richard was the great-grandson of Peter Hudlin and Cherokee-born Nancy Jane Rutledge , who played a pivotal role in the Underground Railroad in the mid-1800s as conductors on the "Lovejoy Line" .

The Hudlin family's history of providing shelter to enslaved individuals was reflected in Richard's deep connection to the fight for freedom and equality .

Dr Hudlin served a period of active duty in the United States Air Force from January 14 1955 to August 28 1958 , where he worked in military intelligence .

Richard is a member of Mensa International - the world's oldest and largest high-IQ society .

Richard's academic achievements were equally remarkable , earning a master's degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago and a doctorate in political science from Atlanta University as a Ford Fellow .

His scholarly pursuits took him around the world where he visited universities and libraries in various countries , including the former Soviet Union , the Eastern Bloc , Germany , the Philippines , and China .

His dedication to education extended to teaching English to instructors in China , showcasing his commitment to global learning and culturar exchange .

In addition to his academic pursuits , Richard was a dedicated family historian , meticulously documenting the extraordinary stories and heritage of his ancestors .

His work took him to Canada , Africa , and Europe , further solidifying his passion for preserving and sharing his family's history .

Dr Hudlin will be remembered for his profound impact as a scholar , educator , and guardian of his family's legacy .

His contributions to academia and his commitment to preserving history have left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him .

Dr Hudlin is preceded in death by his parents , Myrtle and Edward Hudlin of Illinois , and siblings: Dr Lucille Antoinette Hudlin ; Warrington Hudlin ; Russell Hudlin ; Dr Irving Hudlin ; and Dr Edward Hudlin of Illinois .

He is survived by his son Richard Alphonso Hudlin Jr of Nebraska and a host of nieces , nephews , cousins , family and friends .

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched .
